INTRODUCTION

The Oral Surgery Department is proud to be part of Hospital Kuala Lumpur, the largest hospital in this region which also serves as a tertiary health care provider. Our scope of service is to provide holistic and comprehensive care which includes diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation to all patients with oro-facial and dental problems with the objective of successfully restoring function, aesthetics and also elevating the quality of life through the orally fit concept. We serve the Klang Valley and its littoral communities.

This department is located in the main block of the hospital close to other specialist clinics and other facilities such as the cafeteria, Pharmacy, Radiology Department, taxi stand, bus stop and teller machines (ATM). This department is also accessible to the disabled.

There is a full complement of consultant/oral surgeons, dental officers, dental technicians, dental surgery assistants, dental nurses and attendants. We also have a receptionist coordinating the counter services. Day to day business management is undertaken by our Head of Department whereas our senior dental officer takes care of general clinical management.

Our treatment area includes four separate dental cubicles, two specialist rooms, and three single rooms. This clinic also has its own central sterilization room and supply room and also a radiography room. Our clinic setting is a unique combination of newly refurbished rooms that functions together seamlessly, promoting smooth flow of operations.

To provide better onsite service, a dental laboratory is situated within the same building. We provide a large and comfortable waiting area furnished with a television, PA system, magazines rack, and drinking water dispenser. For distinguished guests, we provide a separate waiting room.

Being part of this hospital which serves as a national referral centre, we provide comprehensive oral and maxillofacial services which include trauma management and surgical services, oral medicine and surgical cancer treatment among others.

To improve the quality of service provided, we participate in many quality programmes that are conducted by the hospital and also other institutions. Continuing education is emphasised to enhance clinical skills and knowledge. Evaluation of services provided is not only based on rigid requirements or numerical quotas, but it is evaluated on an ongoing basis and is determined by a Department Quality Committee using standard evaluation criteria developed by the hospital, ministry or department itself.

In view of the current trends in oral diseases and the increasing general population, the department aims to enhance its capability and quality of care by optimising the use of appropriate technology hand-in-hand with state-of-the-art dentistry.

PENGENALAN

Jabatan Bedah Mulut amat berbangga menjadi sebahagian dari Hospital Kuala Lumpur yang merupakan hospital terbesar di kawasan ini dan menjadi sebagai Pusat Rujukan Negara. Skop perkhidmatan kami adalah memastikan khidmat rawatan komprehensif merangkumi penentuan penyakit rawatan dan pemulihan kepada semua pesakit yang mempunyai masalah pembedahan mulut dan maksilofasial dan pergigian untuk membaikpulih dari aspek fungsi, estetik serta peningkatan kualiti hidup melalui konsep ?orally-fit?. Kami memberi khidmat rawatan berkenaan kepada penduduk di Lembah Klang dan juga seluruh Negara.

Jabatan ini terletak di blok utama hospital berhampiran dengan klinik-klinik pakar yang lain dan juga kemudahan lain seperti kantin, farmasi, perhentian teksi/bas dan mesin ATM. Jabatan ini juga mudah dikunjungi oleh pesakit yang kurang berupaya.

Staf di jabatan ini merangkumi pakar perunding, pakar klinikal, pegawai pergigian, juruteknologi pergigian, pembantu pembedahan pergigian, ketua jururawat pergigian, jururawat pergigian dan attendan.

Bilik rawatan kami mempunyai empat ruang asing, dua bilik pakar dan tiga bilik yang berasingan. Klinik kami mempunyai sebuah bilik pensterilan dan pembekalan dan juga sebuah bilik radiografi. Persekitaran dalaman klinik ini telah diubahsuai untuk mewujudkan satu keadaan yang berfungsi secara efektif dan bersama-sama itu akan memberi satu operasi yang lancar.

Untuk memberi perkhidmatan setempat yang berkesan, makmal pergigian juga terletak di dalam bangunan yang sama. Kami menyediakan bahan-bahan bacaan, televisyen, sistem hebahan am dan juga air minuman. Untuk tetamu kehormat, sebuah bilik menunggu khas disediakan.

Dengan entiti Hospital Kuala Lumpur sebagai sebuah Pusat Rujukan Negara, kami menyediakan perkhidmatan pembedahan mulut dan maksilofasial yang komprehensif termasuk pengendalian kes-kes trauma dan perkhidmatan pembedahan, perubatan mulut, pembedahan kanser dan banyak lagi.

Untuk memperbaiki kualiti perkhidmatan, kami menyertai pelbagai aktiviti penambahbaikan kualiti yang dikendalikan oleh pihak hospital dan juga institusi yang lain. Pendidikan berterusan adalah satu program yang menambah kemahiran dan pengetahuan klinikal.

Penilaian kepada perkhidmatan yang diberikan dibuat bukan sahaja berdasarkan kepada kriteria tertentu tetapi juga mengikut ketetapan semasa yang dibuat oleh Jawatankuasa Kualiti Jabatan mengikut kehendak pihak hospital, kementerian atau jabatan sendiri.

Memandangkan keadaan semasa mengenai penyakit mulut dan juga peningkatan bilangan penduduk, jabatan ini akan sentiasa memperbaiki dan memperkukuhkan keupayaannya dari segi kuantiti dan kualiti perkhidmatan dengan menggunakan teknologi terkini.
