Otorhinolaryngology Head& Neck(ORL H&N) department HKL was founded in 1957.It began as a small functioning unit of the hospital and since then has rapidly expanded and developed into a comprehensive department providing ORL H&N consultantcy,comprises of all aspects of management, prevention and rehabilitation.As the occurence of Ear,Nose and throat diseases increased, the number of consultant,specialist ,clinical specialist and medical officer are also increased in order to provide better services to the patients. An audiologist and a speech pathologist are hired to provide necessary rehabilitations. The main function of ORL Head & Neck HKL is to provide a comprehensive, efficient and up-to-date Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck service which encompasses aspects of treatment via a multidisciplinary team approach, prevention,rehabilitation, training and research and also to act as a national advisory resource for the Ministry of Health of Malaysia. .

As national advisory resourse for ministry of health discussions and consultation with other state hospital are done regularly. Most state hospitals provides the service of ORL surgeon, audiologist and speech pathologist. We also cover other hospital under Wilayah Persekutuan such as Labuan Hospital.Our ENT specialist visits hospital Labuan every 2 months. 


1.All individual with Otorhinolaryngological problems can be treated and being able to return to their premorbid well being and contributes to the society.

2.Preventing mortality and morbidity of otorhinolaryngology disease to the maximum. 

3. All individuals are involved in the the management of patient with Otorinolaryngology diseases


ORL H&N HKL will 

1. Provide a quality, efficient,cost effective and the most up-to-date services by well trained,caring and commited ORL team. 

2.Need involvement of individual and society in promoting ORL Health awareness programmes. 

3. To carry out and apprehend the activity of continous medical education in the department


1. Provide ORL H&N comprehensive treatment to all our patient towards better health and rehabilitate those in need and to reduce the number or mortality and morbility according to the medical standards that has been outlined.

2. To improve patient involvement and participation in the management of their idsease through health education and counseling. 

3. To train, up grade the knowledge and expertise of students; paramedics, medical officers and specialist in ORL H&N disease. 

4. To act as an primier/tertiary referral centre for ORL H&N disease.

- ORL H&N ward consist of male and female ward 1st class, 2nd class and third class wards are available.
- The cases are mainly ORL H&N cases but multidisciplinary cares are being practised to ensure optimum care is given to patients.
- In patient with severe illness/post operative period who need close monitoring are give ICU care.

Research in the field of ORL H&N are being done to monitor the prevalence of otorhinolaryngology diseases, to determine the response to treatment, feasibility of trying out new modalities of treatment and improve the quality of care. Reports of research done will be presented in clinical meetings, lectures and conferences.

Structured training programmes are being held for medical students and advance masters in otorhinolaryngology who will be assessed at the end of their training.
Various doctors such as Medical Officers on rotation from medical department, Master's students from UKM and UM and Family Medicine Masters student will undergo hands on training. Visiting students and doctors with interest in any field will be guided to enable them to improve their knowledge and necessary skill required. 
Paramedics including student nurses are given opportunities to improve their skill on the care of otorhinolaryngology H&N.
