Neurology services in HKL started since 1963 with arrival of Dr Roy Clifton Selby, a neurosurgeon under CARE/MEDICO program United States of America, however overall development of neurological services was very slow due to lacking of neurologist1. In 1971, development of neurological services had improved after arrival of Dr Hans Isler from Switzerland and followed by local neurologist Dr. C Balaratnam2.

With opening of Institut Kajisaraf Tunku Abdul Rahman in1973, neurology services had improved under leadership of Dato’ Dr. C Balaratnam (1971 – 1982), Dr. Sabri bin Rejab (1982 – 1983), Dato’ Dr Mohd Rani bin Jusoh (1983 – 2001), Datuk Dr Raihanah bt Abdul Khalid (2001 – 2005), Dato’ Dr Mohd Hanip bin Rafia (2005 – 2016) and Dr Santhi Datuk Puvanarajah (2016-present).
